Title IX
Guided by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, we uphold the principle that no individual shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity. At Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU), we are committed to maintaining an educational and working environment free from discrimination, harassment, and violence.
What is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal law that protects individuals from discrimination based on sex in federally funded education programs and activities. This law applies to all aspects of the educational experience, including:
- Admissions
- Academic programs
- Athletics
- Employment
- Access to housing, financial aid, and support services
At PHSU, Title IX ensures equal opportunities and protections for all members of our community, regardless of gender or gender identity.
Our Commitment
PHSU has a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of sex-based discrimination, harassment, and violence, including:
- Sexual harassment
- Sexual assault
- Domestic violence
- Dating violence
- Stalking
We are dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and accountability, where individuals feel safe to report concerns and confident that their voices will be heard.
Grievance Process
PHSU follows a transparent and equitable grievance process to investigate and resolve Title IX complaints. Key steps include:
- Filing a Complaint: Complaints can be submitted by any member of the PHSU community.
- Initial Assessment: The Title IX Coordinator reviews the complaint and determines the appropriate next steps.
- Investigation: A thorough, impartial investigation is conducted to gather evidence and interview relevant parties.
- Resolution: Findings are shared, and appropriate actions are taken, which may include disciplinary measures or other remedies.
- Appeals: Both parties have the right to appeal the resolution if they believe due process was not followed.
Training and Prevention
PHSU is committed to preventing Title IX violations through education and training.
- Mandatory Training: All students, faculty, and staff complete annual Title IX training to understand their rights and responsibilities.
- Awareness Campaigns: Events and workshops promote a culture of respect and inclusion.
