Whether you’re joining us in Puerto Rico, St. Louis, or the British Virgin Islands, we are here to support your academic journey and ensure a smooth transition into your new environment as an international student. At Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU), we take pride in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse community.
Why Choose PHSU as an International Student?
Admissions for International Students
Who Qualifies as an International Student?
Any applicant who is not a citizen or permanent resident of the country where the campus is located qualifies as an international student. For example:
- Applicants to the St. Louis Campus who are not U.S. or Puerto Rico citizens
- Applicants to the Puerto Rico locations who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Applicants to the Tortola, BVI campus who are not citizens of the British Virgin Islands
If an international applicant is currently enrolled in a foreign medical college or other health professions programs, no part of that medical or health professions curriculum can be used to fulfill any part of the PHSU’s academic requirements for granting a PHSU Degree. Foreign medical graduates are not eligible to apply for advanced standing in the program.
Admissions Requirements
- Meet the specific academic and programmatic requirements outlined for your chosen degree program.
- Submit proof of English language proficiency if your primary language is not English (TOEFL or IELTS scores).
- Provide certified transcripts and credential evaluations if your previous education was completed outside the U.S.
English Language Requirements
An English exam is required for any prospective student whose country is not considered English-speaking per Immigration guidance.* However, an exception may be granted to students with an undergraduate degree from a US or UK university—a waiver must be requested from PHSU in this instance.
Acceptable Language test to be presented:
- IELTS: prospective students must obtain a 7.0 overall and 7.0 on each band required for direct entry
- TOEFL: 94-101 overall is required for direct entry (24-26 reading / 24-26 listening / 23 speaking / 27-28 writing)
