The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and guests are of utmost importance, at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU). Each PHSU location, including the Main Campus in Puerto Rico, the St. Louis Campus, and other sites, is equipped with policies, personnel, and systems designed to create a secure learning environment.
Building Security and Access Control
PHSU campuses implement controlled access measures to maintain a secure environment.
Security Badge Requirements
All students, faculty, and staff are issued personal identification badges, which are required for access to designated areas on campus.
Guest Policy
Visitors must be accompanied by a PHSU faculty or staff member at all times and adhere to specific campus protocols.
Limited Building Access
Access is tailored based on the individual's role (student, faculty, or staff), ensuring that sensitive areas are only accessible to authorized personnel.
Surveillance
Security cameras and monitoring systems are installed in key locations to enhance campus safety and deter unauthorized access.
Security Personnel
Each campus is supported by a team of trained security officers who are dedicated to maintaining a safe environment. They are stationed across campus to ensure rapid response to incidents and to assist with routine safety concerns.
Campus Safety Policies
PHSU is committed to creating an inclusive and secure atmosphere. PHSU actively works to prevent and address hate crimes and bias incidents by providing ongoing training to public safety officers, students, faculty, and staff. These sessions focus on identifying, reporting, and responding to such incidents. A transparent and accessible reporting system is in place for students and staff to communicate safety concerns or report incidents.
Emergency Preparedness and Training
PHSU conducts regular safety drills and emergency preparedness training across all campuses. These initiatives help ensure the community is equipped to respond to various scenarios, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security threats.
Campus-Wide Security Features
While specific measures may vary between campuses, some common security features include:
- Secure entrances with badge access
- Emergency communication systems, including intercoms and mobile alerts
- Well-lit walkways and parking areas to enhance nighttime safety
- Security escort services for students and staff upon request
Commitment to Continuous Improvement
PHSU routinely evaluates its security policies and infrastructure to address emerging challenges and enhance campus safety. Input from students, faculty, and staff plays a critical role in shaping improvements and ensuring the university continues to meet the highest safety standards.
By prioritizing security and safety, PHSU ensures that every member of our community can focus on academic success and professional development in a protected and supportive environment. For more information on campus safety policies or to report a concern, please contact your local campus director.
