About The Program

The Rural Family Medicine Recidency Program is the first residency program of its kind in Puerto Rico. It is a three year, ACGME accredited program that offer four positions annually. The program provides comprehensive Family Medicine, combining robust inpatient and outpatient experiences with a strong focus on caring for patients in rural and medically underserved communities. Through diverse clinical experiences, residents develop the knowledge, skills, and cultural competency needed to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and address healthcare disparities in underserved populations.

Mission

Our Mission is to develop compassionate, ethical, diverse and culturally competent Family Medicne physicians by provision of high-quality education and involvement in Family Medicine research. The residents will provide care for patients regardless of age or health condition, sustaining an enduring and trusting relationship, identifying health disparities, working with a team of other professionals to improve quality in patient care and access to healthcare in the rural and other underserved communities in Puerto Rico.

How To Apply

Must have graduated from a U.S. or internationally accredited medical school (ECFMG certification required for international graduates).
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident authorized to work in the U.S.
Hold a Provisional Medical License from the Board of Medical Licensing and Discipline of Puerto Rico
Submit a certified transcript of credits and diploma from the medical school attended.
Submit a certified transcript with USMLE Step 2 scores.
Submit a Medical Student Performance Evaluation
Submit a Medical School Good Standing Letter
Submit a Curriculum Vitae
Submit three letters of recommendation
Submit a personal statement (2 pages maximum)
Professional English and Spanish language proficiency (oral and written)
