Message from the Dean
The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU)
aims to develop a new generation of Professional Psychologists with a strong foundation
on the biological bases of behavior, a broad understanding of the psychological processes
and of the socio-cultural dimension of normal and abnormal behavior. The students
are immersed in a rich scientifically based curriculum harmonized by a multidisciplinary
faculty from the fields of Psychology. The SBBS is always at the forefront of new
developments in neuroscience and psychology. We have faculty and students, across
all our programs engaged in research exploring different components of neurodevelopmental
disorders, as well as other aspects related to the innovative world of science and
mental health. This progress not only improves our school’s contributions to science,
but also will help bring new alternatives to mental health care worldwide. Mental
health education and research are at the top of our priorities, at our school. With
current mental health challenges, PHSU is committed to advancing knowledge and creating
evidence-based interventions that can help address these needs. As a school of behavioral
health sciences, we continue to collaborate with efforts of interdisciplinary learning,
research, as well as service to the community. SBBS stands out in preparing the next
generations of mental health professionals, by combining rigorous academic training
with onsite real practicum experiences. Our students benefit from direct and dedicated
mentorship, as well as opportunities to work within diverse cultural and clinical
settings. All our psychology programs emphasize the skills needed to guarantee excellence
in the profession, while, at the same time, instilling a deep sense of empathy and
                  commitment to evidence based practice.

                  Yaritza M. López Robledo, PhD
