Eligibility for Transfer

PHSU accepts transfer applications for graduate and undergraduate programs based on academic qualifications and alignment with program requirements.

General Transfer Requirements

  • Students must have completed coursework at an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency or the Puerto Rico Board of Postsecondary Institutions.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is typically required, though program-specific requirements may vary.
  • Only courses with a grade of “B” or higher are eligible for transfer.

How to Apply as a Transfer Student

1. Submit a Transfer Application

Complete and submit your application through the PHSU Admissions Portal.

2. Provide Official Transcripts

Request that all institutions previously attended send official transcripts directly to the PHSU Admissions Office.

3. Course Descriptions and Syllabi

Submit detailed course descriptions or syllabi to facilitate the evaluation process.

4. Additional Documents

Depending on your program, additional documentation, such as letters of recommendation or a personal statement, may be required.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

The maximum number of credits eligible for transfer varies by program, however is typically less than 30% of the total credits required for program completion. The Medical Education Program only accepts transfers into the third year of the curriculum (advanced standing students) who already completed their pre-clinical years and USMLE Step 1 in another LCME-accredited school. Each application is reviewed by the Transfer of Credits Committee, which evaluates coursework based on relevance and institutional policies.
