Veteran Students

As an institution approved by the Puerto Rico State Approving Agency, PHSU is committed to helping veteran students achieve their academic and career goals while ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is proud to support veterans and active-duty military personnel by providing access to educational opportunities under the various GI Bill® programs.

GI Bill® Educational Benefits

PHSU is authorized to provide academic training to students eligible for educational assistance under the GI Bill®, a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Whether you are pursuing a degree in medicine, nursing, public health, or another healthcare field, we are here to support your journey.

Veterans applying for educational benefits who have completed studies at other institutions must adhere to PHSU’s transfer of credits policy. For assistance with transfer evaluations or GI Bill® benefits, contact our Admissions or Registrar's office.

Compliance with Title 38 United States Code 3679 (e)

In accordance with Title 38 United States Code 3679 (e) Section 103 PL 115-407, PHSU has implemented policies to support students entitled to Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) or Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill®) benefits.

This policy ensures that eligible students can attend or participate in their enrolled courses while awaiting payment from the Department of Veterans Affairs. PHSU will not impose penalties such as late fees, denial of access to courses or services, or requirements to secure additional funding due to delayed VA disbursements.

Student Requirements for Compliance

To maintain eligibility and ensure proper and timely access to VA benefits, veteran students must:

  • Submit a certificate of eligibility for financial aid benefits before the first day of enrollment.
  • Provide a written request to use VA benefits.
  • Supply any additional information needed for accurate certification of enrollment.

Students are responsible for covering any remaining balance between enrollment charges and VA benefit disbursements.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Discrimination or harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, veteran status, or other protected categories is strictly prohibited. This commitment applies to all aspects of student life, including admissions, programs, and employment.

PHSU is dedicated to providing veteran students with the tools and resources needed to succeed academically and professionally. Our team is available to assist with financial aid, enrollment, and transfer credits, ensuring a seamless experience for those transitioning from military service to higher education.
